Chelsea start Champions League with huge deception

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang make his debut in Zagreb. There was once again room under the bar for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who replaced the unfit Edouard Mendy. The Blues , who are performing differently in the Premier League, actively started the game in Croatia. Aubameyang in particular was dangerous in the opening phase, but the Gabonese was very selfless in a number of attacks where he could have finished himself.

Dinamo zagreb vs Chelsea

Dinamo stayed upright and came out very quickly in the thirteenth minute. Bruno Petkovic headed the ball through to Mislav Orsic who was at full speed and Fofana ran out. The Frenchman, who single-handedly cost more money than Dinamo spent on transfers in the past decade, did not look good. Then the Croat also outwitted goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with a very subtle bounce with the outside of the foot: 1-0.

Chelsea had to chase after that, but struggled to create big opportunities, even when Hakim Ziyech had come into the squad halfway through for César Azpilicueta. Aubameyang did score, but saw his goal disallowed for offside. On the other side, Stefan Ristovski startled the English with a shot that exploded against the crossbar from Kepa’s hand.

In the final phase Chelsea had a lot of ball possession, but Tuchel’s team did not get further than a shot by Reece James against the post. Under the watchful eye of owner Todd Boehly, the start of the new Champions League season turned out to be quite a disappointment for the 2021 winner.
