Every June, on the third Sunday, the world commemorates International Father’s Day or World Father’s Day .
This year, World Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 19, 2022. World Father’s Day is different from National Father’s Day which is celebrated every 12 November.

At that time, the 36th US President Lyndon Johnson declared that the third Sunday in June would be Father’s Day.
Only in the era of the next president, Richard Nixon, made a law that made World Father’s Day a national holiday in 1972.
However, that does not mean that before that year World Father’s Day was never celebrated.
The idea for Father’s Day came from Sonora Smart Dodd, a person who was raised by her father because her mother died after giving birth.
Dodd’s father, William Jackson Smart, was a civil war veteran who raised his six children alone.
As he listened to the sermon at church on Mother’s Day, Dodd thought about all that his father had done for him and his five siblings.
Since then, Dodd decided that fathers should also be honored with Father’s Day celebrations.
Because Dodd’s father was born on June 5, he urged churches in his area, Spokane, to commemorate Father’s Day on that date.
Unfortunately, the church did not have enough time to prepare sermons. Finally, the celebration was postponed until the third Sunday of June.
World Father’s Day was then celebrated for the first time on the third Sunday of June, June 19, 1910 to be exact.
Initially, Dodd’s Father’s Day celebrations were not very successful. He also needs extra energy to promote Father’s Day.
In the 1920s, Dodd stopped celebrating Father’s Day because he had to study at the Art Institute of Chicago, USA. Slowly, Father’s Day celebrations faded.
In the 1930s, Dodd returned to his hometown and began to fuel Father’s Day celebrations.
Dodd’s persistence finally paid off and raised awareness of the importance of respecting fathers at a national level.
World Father’s Day then began to be widely celebrated when President Richard Nixon designated it as a national holiday in 1972.
