Mbappe and Haaland win and score twice, Real Madrid beat Celtic

The Champions League officially started on Tuesday. The preliminaries are over, from now on it’s time for the real work. And the group matches did not disappoint. Below you can read an overview – and see a number of goals – of most matches.

Chelsea already surprisingly lost at Dinamo Zagreb earlier in the evening. The 2021 winner lost 1-0 in Croatia. Borussia Dortmund easily beat FC Copenhagen.

Mbappe teases Juventus

Paris Saint-Germain against Juventus was the clash of the evening on paper. But with playful ease, the French top team waltzed over the team from Turin before half-time with the help of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Mbappé was the goldcrest and scored 2 times. Juventus turned into an old-fashioned kicking team to prevent worse.

After the break, Mbappé had blinkers on. The Frenchman was once again too quick for Juventus’ defense and headed towards Juventus’ goal. However, he forgot Neymar next to him and decided to do it himself. Mbappe hit the side net, much to Neymar’s frustration. Not much later, Juventus came back into the game with a header from Weston McKennie. PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma prevented the equalizer, the ‘Old Lady’ did not come alongside.

Haaland on steam

What Mbappé can do, I can do too, Erling Haaland must have thought. The giant of Manchester City scored 2 against Sevilla, the other goals were scored by Phil Foden and Ruben Días. Haaland scored his 24th and 25th goals in the Champions League, which took him only 20 games. In comparison: Cristiano Ronaldo had 0 after 20 matches.

Real Madrid win flattering

At Celtic Park, the Champions League was finally shown again. Celtic also started attacking against title holder Real Madrid, only the Scots forgot to reward themselves. The home team had several chances, only the ball did not go in. That was easier at Real Madrid. They scored via Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric and substitute Eden Hazard. The blemish on the victory was the failure of captain Karim Benzema.
